Audit experts from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) commissioned to audit IMO Member States are currently in Cameroon to conduct an audit of its port and maritime sectors. The audit which started today and ends on 26 September 2022, will take the team to Yaoundé, Douala and Kribi.
The opening ceremony of this key activity took place today, 19 September 2022 in Yaoundé, and was presided over by Mr. Mveimani Sombo, sitting in for the minister of transport in his capacity as Secretary General of the said ministry, supervisory authority of the maritime sector.
As a key player of Cameroon’s maritime and port sector, the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC) is taking an active part in this exercise and is represented by two of its staff, Mr. Nolga Douglas and Mr. Tonye Merveille Telesphore, respectively CNSC Central Branch Manager and Chief of Service for International Cooperation.
The purpose of the ongoing audit is to assess how well Cameroon has implemented mandatory IMO instruments, especially in relation to maritime safety, the protection of marine and port environments, and a host of other requirements of the port and maritime sector.
