Douala Port cuts prices for the weighing of goods bound for the CAR and Chad

The Port Authority of the Douala-Bonaberi area (PAD), the main gateway for goods entering or leaving Cameroon, has reduced the prices for weighing goods bound for two landlocked CEMAC countries namely the Central African Republic (CAR) and Chad.
"The public and customers of the Douala Port are informed that in order to offer competitive services to neighboring and friendly countries, the PAD hereby grants a preferential weighing tariff of 250 FCFA / tonne (exclusive of taxes) for transit goods bound for or coming from Chad and the Central African Republic at the Douala Port,” PAD General Manager Cyrus Ngo'o states in his decision.
PAD top management further explains that the reduction in the price of weighing goods stands at around 25%. Indeed, before this decision, the weighing tariff was 330 FCFA, exclusive of taxes. This cut will make the port area more attractive for shippers from these two CEMAC geographically disadvantaged countries that depend on Cameroon for the transport of their seaborne cargo.
The decision will help to reduce the financial load borne by shippers and other transport and international trade sector players who have been complaining, since the end of 2020, of the 50% increase in transport tariffs along the Douala-Ndjamena corridor used to supply the Chadian capital from the Douala Port.
