This was one of the resolutions following consultations between the government and the road transport trade unions on 25 March 2022 in Yaoundé.
The strike order was suspended after hours of lengthy discussions. Transporters were planning to go on strike on 28 March 2022, if their demands were not met. After consultations with the ministry of transport and other government departments involved, measures were taken to improve their working conditions.
According to the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, 8 out of 14 points were relatively resolved thanks to which the strike action was suspended. "The union has suspended the strike action and significant progress has been made. Out of 14 points tabled, almost 9 have been resolved. The other points have already been addressed and forwarded to the hierarchy for approval as we continue discussions," said MINT.
One of the resolutions was the suspension of weighbridges installed at the Douala Seaport. However, trucker trade unions, signatories of the strike notice of 28 March 2022, have suspended the strike for 14 days, time for them to reach out to their members and to continue technical consultations with stakeholders of the sector.
