On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, Mr. Younouss Soungui, Deputy General Manager of the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC), chaired a consultation meeting between road transporters and shippers to establish minimum rates applicable to the internal transport of goods. The meeting took place in the training hall on the 11^th floor of CNSC’s head-office building in Bonanjo.

CNSC's DGM was keen to thank the participants for their availability, while apologising on behalf of CNCC's GM who was unavoidably absent. He then presented the context of the meeting further to recommendations by the Ministry of Trade (MINCOMMERCE), underlining that the liberalisation of markets by the WTO has made it such that transport prices are henceforth set by negotiation between the stakeholders.

As concerns complaints lodged by transporters with MINCOMMERCE, the latter stated that it could only approve minimum rates if they were jointly proposed by road transporters and shippers.

This meeting was attended by about fifteen trade unions and comes up at a time when the road transport sector is striving for better organisation so as to make known its key role as a vehicle for economic growth in Cameroon. Besides, it is important that all stakeholders of this key sector of Cameroon's economy work together to promote national and sub-regional integration, highly sought-after.

At the end of the discussions, it was agreed that meetings should be organised by sector so that road transporters and shippers can effectively agree on a minimum applicable rate. The CNSC was charged with identifying prominent shippers/professional organisations of each sector and proceed with the said consultations before 20 May 2022 at the latest and after which a report will be presented to MINCOMMERCE.
