On Monday 26 September 2022, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport (MINT), on behalf of the Minister of Transport, the supervisory authority of the maritime sector, presided over the closing ceremony of the first part of the audit of Cameroon's port and maritime sectors, which took place at Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé.
The ceremony was attended by auditors from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the Inspector General of the MINT, and representatives of public, semi-public and private companies in the maritime sector.
The IMO audit, which started on 19 September, enabled the experts to assess Cameroon's progress in the implementation of conventions, identify shortcomings with regard to operations in the ports of Douala and Kribi, and propose recommendations that would help these ports improve on their performance. They also expressed their satisfaction with the hospitality and the frank collaboration offered by the administrations and the semi-public and private companies operating in the maritime sector.
In his closing remarks, the Secretary General thanked the IMO experts and invited the participants to continue in the same spirit of collaboration in implementing the recommendations of the audit. These will enable Cameroon to step up its efforts toward a more attractive and competitive maritime sector.
