Cameroon's foreign trade figures as validated by the National Technical Committee for Trade Balance (NTCTB) at its 63rd session show a deficit of 1,292.8 billion FCFA. Excluding oil and petroleum products, the deficit is higher and stands at 1,982.3 billion FCFA. The recorded coverage rate was 62% against 63.3% in 2017.
Export earnings witnessed a slight increase (2,112 billion FCFA against 1,882 billion FCFA in 2017) that is attributable to the exportation of liquefied natural gas, which is Cameroon's new export product. To the latter, should be added bulk oil, which recorded a 15.8% increase notwithstanding a 16.7% decrease in the quantities exported in 2017. Import expenditures also witnessed an 11.5% increase as a result of an increase in fuel and lubricant import expenditures, which amounted to 473.4 billion FCFA in 2018 against 251.9 billion FCFA in 2017, representing an increase of 87.9%.
