Within the framework of the implementation of the National Development Strategy 2020-2030, the government has opted to accord incentives and facilities to the private sector in a bid to strengthen production and render the economy competitive. Meanwhile, in the domain of mechanical fabrication and industrial maintenance, the government intends to render the actors in the sector autonomous in view of developing the necessary technology as the NDS30 prescribed. It is therefore on this premise that the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) has drawn up a blueprint aimed at guiding government's support to the enterprises in the sector.

The plan that was scrutinized in a working session in Yaoundé recently under the auspices of the Head of Division of Economic Policies Analysis at the Ministry of the Economy, Fritsh Paulin Mendo, has four major articulations which includes the organisation and structuring of the sector, strengthening of production capacities of enterprises in the sector, the development of human resources and institutions of standards in the sector and increasing visibility of local products of the sector through publicity and vulgarization of the products.

Speaking at the working session, the Head of Division for Economic Policies and Analysis at MlNEPAT noted that the current global context marked by a surge in prices of raw materials makes the plan even more urgent. This plan, he stated, will set the stage for a more performant and organized industry which will serve as a lever for the structural transformation of the economy as inscribed in the NDS30. The State, he said, accords facilities to the private sector to boost the processing of raw materials for local consumption. The plan will boost production of machines and spare parts in a bid to facilitate local processing and limit importations of both mechanical spare parts and processed items.
