Sogea Satom announces completion of Olama-Bigambo motorway (106 km) leading to the port of Kribi

In a statement issued on 7 July, the French company, Sogea Satom, announced the completion of the road between Olama and Bingambo. However, the date of its provisional acceptance is yet to be set. The project included the development of the 106 km Olama-Bingambo road, the construction of two art works measuring 15 m and 24 m in width and 277 reinforced concrete box culverts, the development of 81 km of rural tracks and 13 km of urban roads. The project also includes a social component with the construction of socio-educational facilities along the stretch (classrooms, community homes for youths and women, health centres, latrines, storage warehouses, boreholes and wells).

This road will eventually be used mainly for heavy vehicle traffic to transport goods from the new Kribi deep-sea port to Yaoundé. The development of this road shall ease accessibility, reduce transport cost and improve the living conditions of the populations of the area.

Entrusted to Sogea Satom in 2018, the project has mobilised significant local human resources, including 830 Sogea-Satom employees and more than 1,200 subcontractors and service providers. The construction project of the Olama-Bingambo section was financed by the Islamic Development Bank and the State of Cameroon to the tune of 87.7 billion FCFA.
